Mayor ‘angered’ by video showing overcrowding at Northwest Side bar

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A Northwest Side bar and restaurant has received two citations from the city for violating the COVID-19 emergency orders.

“Horrible, absolutely horrible,” was Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s reaction to video showing overcrowding and other violations at The Well. “I was angered by what I saw on the tape, not just the blatant disregard for the well-being of other people, including those who were in that establishment, but also on behalf of all the other small business owners in this community that are trying to do it the right way.”

Videos circulating on social media also showed long lines outside the club with no social distancing.

“We’re also going to be deploying a proactive inspection team in those areas that we know are troublesome because we’ve been out there before, and we’re not going to wait anymore,” the mayor said during a COVID-19 briefing Monday evening. “No more warnings.  We’re going to shut them down, if necessary.”

The owner of the establishment on UTSA Boulevard says the problem was lack of security.  Their security team walked off the job Saturday night and the owner is working to resolve the situation.
