A 13-year-old California girl was coming to the finish line at her championship track meet when she realized she had a special fan waiting for her. It was her mother, Capt. Erika Woodson, who had been serving in the military in Alaska.

“I was excited because I was in first place and I saw my mom close to the finish line so it made me start running faster,” Jada McGee told Inside Edition.

Woodson had not been home to California in nearly six months and had missed many of her daughter’s middle school track meets, but was determined to be there for her daughter.
