Mother of missing San Antonio toddler indicted on tampering with evidence charge

BEXAR COUNTY (KTSA News) — A Bexar County grand jury indicted the mother of a missing San Antonio toddler Tuesday morning on a charge of tampering with evidence.

Both D’Lanny Chairez and her child, James, had been reported missing in January.  Chairez was located after a video showed her on a bus after the date of her disappearance, but her son is still missing.

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office allege in their charge that Chairez intentionally and knowingly concealed her child on March 15th when she learned an investigation was underway.

If convicted, tampering with evidence is punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.

Chairez is currently behind held in jail on an earlier charge of abandoning a child.
