SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Interstate 410 late Thursday morning on San Antonio’s South Side.

San Antonio police say a tractor trailer hauling concrete rocks and debris was traveling westbound on Interstate 410 near Somerset Road when it lost control and spilled its load onto the highway.

The traffic suddenly stopped because of the debris on the road.

However, a man riding a motorcycle could not stop fast enough and crashed into a stopped vehicle directly in front of him.  He would eventually be found on the right lane of the interstate where he would die despite life-saving efforts by an off-duty Bexar County sheriff’s deputy.

The driver of the truck was taken to a San Antonio hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The crash closed the westbound main and frontage road lanes in that area for several hours in the early afternoon.

Police say the case remains under investigation.
