Murder suspect found dead in his cell at the Bexar County Jail

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A murder suspect has been found dead in his cell at the Bexar County Jail.

Twenty-five-year-old Enrique Perez was arrested last Thursday in Blanco County and charged in the death of Mary Lou Rodriguez. She was reported missing July 27 and her body was later found in Lampasas County.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says a cellmate found Perez unresponsive just before 10 Monday night. Deputies and medical staff responded and started performing life-saving measures, but they were unable to revive him.

BCSO says all face-to-face observation checks had been conducted on time per standard procedure before the unit officer was notified that Perez was unresponsive. The sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division  and internal Affairs are conducting a investigation, and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards has been notified to ensure that all policies and procedures were followed.
