National Doughnut Day is back Friday

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — It’s that time of year again: National Doughnut Day with the Salvation Army. A number of local businesses are offering free treats to celebrate the occasion.

Participating locations include: Krispy Kreme will give one free doughnut all-day; Shipley is offering one free doughnut per person till noon with purchase; Dunkin Donuts is offering a free doughnut all-day with beverage purchase; Duck Donuts is offering free doughnut all-day.

The Salvation Army said National Doughnut Day began in Chicago in 1938 to help raise needed funds during the Great Depression and commemorate the work of the “doughnut lassies”who fed donuts to American soldiers on the front lines during World War I.
