National Weather Service issues flood watch for San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the San Antonio region.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across South Central Texas this afternoon. That will continue into Tuesday evening and Wednesday with locally heavy rainfall expected.

There could be a few strong wind gusts accompanying thunderstorms Tuesday but the major concern is the potential for flooding.

While we are in dire need of some rain, the storms could produce a lot of rain in a short amount of time with 2 to 4 inches of rain per hour in some locations.

NWS says the rainfall rates could produce flash flooding, especially in areas in low water crossings and in urban areas.

The flood watch for the Edwards Plateau, the Hill Country and the San Antonio to Austin metro area will be in effect through Wednesday afternoon.
