SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man from Nebraska is in the Comal County Jail after stealing a couple of pick up trucks in New Braunfels.

Police says 35 year old Guillermo Velasquez of Omaha stole the first pick-up from the parking lot of the Circle -K at 35 South and Walnut at around 7:45 Tuesday night.

He didn’t get far.

There was some damage done to the truck during his getaway and when he pulled over at the New Braunfels Marketplace Shopping Center, another motorist who didn’t know the truck was stolen, stopped to help him.

Since crime is all about opportunity, Velasquez used this one to steal that truck while the driver was distracted.

A few minutes later, the calls came in about an accident on South Seguin Avenue involving the second stolen truck. It seems Velasquez crashed into two other vehicles, injuring three people before deciding to run.

He was caught on Hill Avenue. The two stolen trucks, the wrecks, the injuries to other motorists and his eventual capture, was all done in about 20 minutes.

Valasquez was brought in on a number of charges.
