New Braunfels Fire Department to get new drone

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — You’ll soon see a new presence flying above New Braunfels.

The city’s Fire Department has been awarded a grant that will be used to buy a new drone.

Why does the Fire Department need a drone?

The device is going to be used for several task that will include:

• Search and rescue operations on land and the rivers

• Damage assessment after severe weather events or other disasters

• Wildland fire reconnaissance to determine the size, scope and exposures

• Rapid gain of situational awareness in large apartment or other multi-family complex fires for swift resource deployment

• Hazmat reconnaissance

The Mavic Enterprise Drone purchase is from a New Braunfels Community Foundation grant.
