Wednesday was a day of celebration for the six new San Antonio city council members and mayor.

The group was officially sworn in at council chambers and is ready to get to work, following a public inauguration at the Arneson River Theatre.

Among the newly elected, District 8’s Manny Pelaez.

“I am one short chapter in this long history of San Antonio but I hope to make this chapter an important one,” Pelaez said.

Also new to council is District 9’s John Courage, who appreciated the amount of people who showed up at council chambers for the special meeting.

“I think it’s important that people see who we are and know who we are because I certainly want to represent people well by communicating with them,” Courage said.

The first regular meeting for the 2017-19 city council is at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Municipal Plaza Building.
