New Indictment for Genene Jones

By Bill O’Neill

We’re expecting to hear more from Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood Friday Morning–a day after a Grand Jury indicted 66-year old Genene Jones for the 1981 murder of Joshua Sawyer.

Jones, who is suspected of killing up to sixty infants is behind bars at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville.

Investigators said they can prove Jones injected the 11-month old Sawyer with a toxic level of Dilantin while working as a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at what was formerly known as Bexar County Hospital.

The new indictment comes more than two years after LaHood created a task force to investigate Jones and the crimes she committed.

In 1985, a jury in Williamson County sentenced Jones to 99 years in prison for the death of 15-month old Chelsea McClellan. Later that year, Jones was sentenced to 60 years in jail for injecting four-week old Rolando Santos with Heparin.

Those sentences are being served concurrently.
