SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — With San Antonio residents heading to the polls in a month, Mayor Ron Nirenberg is asking voters to turn down “Proposition A”.
Nirenberg was interviewed during the 6 P.M. News on KSAT-12 Tuesday to encourage voters to “do their research before they go vote and then join me in voting against Prop A.”
Included in the proposition, a move to decriminalize marijuana in San Antonio. If approved, police would no longer be able to arrest or even cite people caught with up to 4 ounces of marijuana.
But Nirenberg says the city can’t do that because the city doesn’t have the authority to override state law.
He added that the proposal would ignore victims of crimes due to its lack of consequences for thefts.
Also included in Prop A, a section prohibiting city police officers from investigating abortions or enforcing abortion laws.
Nirenberg tells KSAT that a resolution supporting women’s reproductive rights was recently passed by City Council.
