Northeast School District District teachers will see more money in their paychecks

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The North East School District board has approved a 3 percent salary increase for all eligible employees, with an additional pay hike for teachers with more years experience.

Texas House Bill 3, which was approved this year,  requires school districts to increase salaries for certain staff members, and in the NEISD, the state mandated $7.3 million be spent on teachers, librarians, nurses and counselors. The District added more money, bringing the total amount spent on those positions to $10.4 million.

“We strongly believe that our employees deserve this salary increase and are happy that the board approved our recommendation, but we must also proceed cautiously because there is no guarantee form the state that this funding will be sustained over time,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika.

Thursday, NEISD trustees okayed raising the starting salary for teachers and librarians with zero years of experience to $53,000. Eligible teachers and librarians are getting an across the board 3 percent increase. New-to-the-district teachers and librarians with more than 25 years experience will earn a maximum of $62,028.
