Not enough votes to push “constitutional carry” bill through Texas senate

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — It made it’s way through the Texas House and it appears a bill allowing Texans to carry a gun without a permit stops there.

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick says the bill probably won’t make it through the Texas Senate because there aren’t enough votes to pass it.

The Texas House passed “constitutional carry” last week, which would allow those 21 and up to carry a handgun without a license.

That’s if they can legally possess a gun.

Patrick hasn’t said the bill is dead but admits he is going to have to seek out a new path to change it.

He plans to meet with law enforcement along with gun advocacy groups in hopes of finding a way to move the bill forward.

More than 1.5 million Texans are currently licensed to carry.
