One dead in an early morning shooting on San Antonio’s east side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Gun shots rang out on the east side early Tuesday morning and now one person is dead while another is recovering at a hospital.
Just after 1 AM, police responded to the 1500 block of Hays Street. They arrived to find 48 year old Andre Mathis and another man attempting to leave the scene in a truck.
Mathis had a gunshot wound in his leg.
On the ground, another man with several gunshot wounds, including one to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.
Police are still trying to determine why the shootings took place but there were no witnesses and Mathis and the man who was in the truck with him are not cooperating with police.
