Our Lady of the Lake University’s sports announcer dies during game

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Our Lady of the Lake University is announcing the death of a member of their athletic department.

Longtime sportscaster Michael Thompson died of an apparent cardiac arrest during a women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Thompson had called more than 800 of the school’s games since 2009, covering basketball, baseball, and softball.

It was halftime during the women’s game against LSU Alexandria when Thompson collapsed and fell on the bleachers.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The school canceled the rest of the women’s game and the men’s game that was to follow.

Funeral arrangements haven’t been announced but the school will share the information as soon as it’s available.
