Paxton investigating Houston hospital system policy on parent access to children’s medical records

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating whether or not a Houston hospital is preventing parents and guardians from accessing their children’s medical records.

A Civil Investigative Demand (CID) has been sent to Memorial Hermann Health System ordering details on its policy on medical records for teenagers between 13 and 17 years old. The letter points toward complaints Attorney General Paxton’s office says it has been getting from parents who say they cannot access their children’s medical records.

“If true, your policies violate Texas law and harm parents and children,” the letter reads.

The letter also declares the full commitment from the Attorney General’s Office to make sure Memorial Hermann Health System is following state law.
