Pedestrian Killed in Crash With Deputy

A man is dead after a crash involving a Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy and a pedestrian on the southeast side.

It happened at around 7 Tuesday Night on Donop Road–near Old Corpus Christi Road.

“It was dark, there was a man who was walking down the road. The Deputy hit that man, causing him to eventually lose his life” said James Keith with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, who told KTSA News the Deputy was on routine patrol, and headed to a non-emergency call at the time of the accident.

While he was driving–Keith said the Deputy saw a car coming from the opposite direction.

“The Deputy was focused on the lights of that oncoming car–and just never saw this victim” Keith said.

Lawrence Kindel was flown to University Hospital–where he died before Midnight. No charges are expected.

“We’re heartbroken by this, and our condolences go out to this victim’s family” Keith said.
