SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A 19 year old man is behind bars after he nearly ran over a Balcones Heights police officer who caught him breaking into cars.

There had been numerous reports of vehicles being broken into at the Springhill Suites on NW Loop 410.

Officers were patrolling the parking lot early Wednesday morning when they spotted 19 year old Jonathan Martinez trying to break into a car.

When the officers confronted Martinez, he got in his car and began driving off. He aimed his car at one of the officers who managed to get out of the way. The officer then pulled his weapon and fired one shot at the car.

He hit the driver’s side door and Martinez continued driving, crashing his car about a mile away.

Then he tried to run but officers caught up to him and took him into custody.

Police found guns and drugs when they searched his car.

He’s being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon but more charges are expected to be filed.

No injuries were reported.
