SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — It was Friday night.

The San Antonio Spurs just wrapped up the NBA’s pre-season with a win and the team’s head coach…well..his mind was elsewhere.

Greg Popovich answered a few questions about basketball during his post-game press conference but the topic switched from round-ball to the oval office.

Pop started by saying:

““The thing that is most noticeable isn’t really basketball, the absolute ineptness and lack of understanding of country, or out of any notion of conducting oneself for the good of that country. ”

Nobody had asked him about Donald Trump, politics, the situation in Syria or the prospect of life on Neptune but…he continued by saying everybody “knows what I’m talking about” and that it was “disgusting” , “transparent”, “ridiculous” and “sort of boring”.

He said the people who are really angry are the people who don’t speak out.

“And they knew it during the primary and they really know it now. We have a few people who are figuring it out. But too many are concerned about themselves than how embarrassed our country is when all these shenanigans going on.”

Popovich then went on to wax nostalgic about the late Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings.

“He (cared) about the country. Nothing he did was for himself. Nothing he did was for politicians. Nothing he did was for money. It was for our country and other people. Wouldn’t it be great to have it again, especially from the top? It’s really disgusting.”

The Maryland Representative died last Thursday from health issued he had been suffering from for a long time.

By the way, the Spurs open the regular season Wednesday at home against the New York Knicks.
