SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The site of one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern history is set to be demolished soon.

KSAT-12 is reporting that they have obtained an email that was sent to members of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs letting them know that the building where the shootings took place will be open for final visits July 1 and 2. But the email didn’t tell when the sanctuary will be torn down.

26 people were killed, 22 others injured during a Sunday service November 5, 2017.  The sanctuary was turned into a memorial for the victims a short time later.

Church members voted in favor of tearing the building down in 2021.

KSAT says they have reached out to the church for more information on demolition plans.
