Report: San Antonio City Council split on decision for ban on downtown horse-drawn carriage rides
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio City Council can’t seem to pick a lane when it comes to a plan to phase out the downtown horse-drawn carriage rides.
KSAT-12 reports the full council got a briefing on the matter for the first time during a special session Thursday.
Back in August, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted to come up with some options on how to make to carriages ride away from downtown.
After hearing the phase out plan, council members found themselves split over the recommendation.
Councilman John Courage the lone member voting in opposition of the ban.
There was also some disagreement over the timeline to do away with the carriage rides and the impact it will have on the ride owners and the horses.
Banning the rides would mean 5 businesses will close, putting 81 people out of work.
City council may have a vote on the ban in December.
