S.A. Congressmen React to Trump Win

A couple of Congressmen representing Bexar County are weighing in on Donald Trump’s White House win.

Here’s how Republican Representative Lamar Smith of San Antonio summed it up on the Trey Ware Morning Show.

“I feel like it’s the 4th of July and we just won our independence from an arrogant and unresponsive Federal Government.”

He says Trump’s message resonated with voters.

“Working men and women, some of whom are not working and those who have had their wages flat for the last six or seven years were looking for someone to give voice to their frustration,” said Smith.

Congressman Henry Cuellar, a Democrat, congratulated Smith and Will Hurd for winning their re-election bids.

“I look forward to working with them, along with the rest of the Texas delegation, to make sure that we always put Texas first,” said Cuellar.

Representative Cuellar, who easily defeated challengers, talked to Trey Ware about Trump’s win.

“I will be ready to work with him, but that doesn’t mean we’ll agree on everything,” said Cuellar.

He noted there are important issues affecting Texas that need attention, including trade and immigration reform.

“Consensus is not a bad word. It’s something we have to do to get things done,” Cuellar said.
