Saharan dust plume is scheduled to arrive in San Antonio this week

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – Get ready for an unwelcome visitor in San Antonio this week.  A large dust plume from the Sahara Desert in Africa is heading our way.

“There is a large plume of dust that’s coming across the Atlantic and it looks like the leading edge of it will make its way into parts of South Texas sometime on Tuesday,” said National Weather Service Meterologist Eric Platt.

The larger dust plume will arrive later this week.

“We’re looking at Thursday to really see noticeable impact from the dust across South Central Texas,” said  Platt.

It could cause some problems for people with respiratory problems.  You may experience allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes.

“It can also enhance the sunsets. With those extra particulates in the air, the sunsets will look a little more vivid,”  said Platt.
