SAISD reinstates mask mandate

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio ISD has announced their mask mandate is back in effect as of Wednesday.

In a statement, the district claims to be experiencing an uptick in COVID-19 cases and they’re expecting another increase after the holidays.

“Our Board of Trustees, Interim Superintendent, and legal counsel have determined that it is in the best interest of the district to continue to require students, parents, employees, and visitors to wear masks at all times while in district facilities. ”

The prior mask mandate was paused while district officials looked into an earlier stay order that banned mask mandates.

In the end, the district determined the stay order was limited to the parties in the lawsuit and that they have the authority to require masks.

SAISD will revisit the issue in January.
