SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Bexar County Office of Emergency Management announced today that cooling centers around the county will be open until further notice for residents in unincorporated areas and suburban cities.

“With ERCOT calling for conservation and higher temperatures approaching, I want to encourage our residents to utilize these cooling centers if they need to seek safety from the heat. If you need assistance, please call 311,” said City Manager Erik Walsh.

In a note earlier this week, VIA announced it will provide free rides to public cooling centers. VIA said passengers should inform the operator that they are traveling to a City cooling center when they board and that VIAtrans customers will be allowed to make same-day reservations for cooling center destinations only.

Cooling centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and OEM said the centers will remain operational during potential power outages. Bottled water and ice will be available.
