San Antonio babysitter charged with sexually abusing child for years

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A San Antonio man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child he had been babysitting for more than half a decade.

Andrew Strange was charged Saturday with continuous sexual abuse of a child, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Strange’s victim reported to police in April last year the 38-year-old had sexually abused him from ages 6 to 12 years old. The victim is now 21.

A police report states the victim decided to go to police after Strange came to the victim’s workplace asking for contact information about a family member.

Strange was reportedly a family friend living in the victim’s home who would babysit the victim and his brother while their mother worked.

The victim told police that Strange would take him to the man’s bedroom where Strange would show the victim pornography, masturbate and force the victim to perform sexual acts.

Police reported the abuse first occurred a few times a month and escalated to several times a week until Strange moved out, after which the man physically threatened the victim and his family if they reported the abuse.

In order to avoid arrest, Strange left the state after a second victim came forward with sexual abuse accusations. He was arrested last April but bonded out the next day.

He remains in the Bexar County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
