SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Two San Antonio City Council members are about to announce a proposal for gun buy back program.

East side Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan and north side Councilman John Courage will announce the proposal Tuesday morning at 9 at the San Antonio Police Department.

The news release announcing the press conference stated that the goal is to “reduce the number of firearms in circulation and preventable, accidental deaths.”

“Despite the State’s restrictions, the City of San Antonio has a responsibility to act accordingly in the frame of State law. In 2017, according to the Center for Disease Control, there were 3,513 firearm related deaths in Texas alone, making our state the number one in gun-related deaths in the nation. ”

They say the idea came after the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio earlier this month.
