San Antonio firefighters rescue unconscious man in burning home

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Fire Department is investigating a house fire that has left a home damaged and one man in critical condition.

Crews were called to the fire near Highway 281 and Encino Road on Wednesday morning, and upon arrival they found the home full of smoke. The man was found unconscious at the bottom of a stairwell around the same time a cat was found dead. The man was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition.

Officials say the fire burned through the second floor of the home after having started hours prior.

The cause of the fire is not known, and the extent of the damage to the home was not disclosed.
