San Antonio firefighters suspect squatters caused fire in abandoned Southwest Side home

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A late night fire on the Southwest Side was likely started by squatters who had taken up residence in an abandoned home.

That’s according to San Antonio firefighters who were called to the 600 block of Hazel Street at around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Flames could be seen shooting out of the home when crews arrived.

They were able to knock the fire out quickly but it caused about $30,000 in damage to the building.

The exact cause is still under investigation.
