San Antonio Housing Authority’s Eviction Moratorium ends Monday

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program is about to come to an end.

The San Antonio Housing Authority says the program, that offers direct rental assistance to those who had their income impacted by the pandemic, is ending Monday, February 28.

At the start of the pandemic, the federal government installed an eviction moratorium. When that expired in June of 2021, it was extended 5 times by the San Antonio Housing Authority.

That gave residents extra time to work out a payment agreement with their property managers.

“We have done everything possible the last two years to connect residents to available resources,” said Brandee Perez, SAHA’s Chief Operating Officer. “We continue to urge our families to contact the city or their property manager for help before it’s too late.”

But a number of SAHA residents are still behind. The agency says they collectively owe $5million in past due rent.

Residents can still receive help in catching up on their rent. The city offers several assistance programs. The deadline to apply for additional help in March 1.
