San Antonio ISD updates mask protocols

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees voted to change masking requirements in the school district Monday night.

Officials changed the protocol from “required” to “encouraged.” The changed went into effect Tuesday.

Interim Superintendent Robert Jaklich cited “significant improvement” in local health statistics, noting Metro Health’s community risk level is at the lowest rating available currently.

“Furthermore, within SAISD, our positivity rate fell to less than one half percent – 0.38% – since returning from Spring Break,” Jacklich said in a letter to parents.

The district will continue providing masks to students and staff who request them in addition to offering COVID-19 vaccination clinics and offer weekly testing.

“… And we remain committed to our sanitation and air purification protocols. The health and safety of our SAISD Family will always remain our number one focus,” Interim Superintendent Robert Jaklich said in a letter to parents.
