San Antonio jazz legend Jim Cullum Jr. dead at the age of 77
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – San Antonio jazz great Jim Cullum has died, but his music lives on in the hearts of music lovers across the country.
For more than 20 years, the Jim Cullum Jazz Band broadcast a show on public radio from The Landing on the River Walk. Production of those programs ended in 2012. Cullum also played the cornet with world-renowned jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong and Pete Fountain.
In the early 60’s, he played with his father, Jim Cullum Sr. and The Happy Jazz Band. Jim Cullum Jr. continued entertaining crowds on a regular basis at area venues, including the Roarin’ Jazz Club at the Bonham Exchange, the Argyle and the Trinity University Skyline Room.
He died at his home Sunday of an apparent heart attack. He was 77.
