SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man who drowned at Mustang Island Beach on Sunday was from San Antonio.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as 51-year-old Ramon Cortez the Third.

Cortez was swimming in the Gulf but his family lost sight of him and called 9-1-1.

Emergency personnel found Cortez and pulled him from the water but he was pronounced dead at Bay Area Hospital.

Police say water conditions on Sunday weren’t favorable and Cortez was probably caught in a rip tide.
