San Antonio No.1 for barbecue, new study

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — It may come as no surprise that three Texas cities land in the top 15 best cities for barbecue, but would you have expected San Antonio to come in at No. 1?

Many from the Alamo City would expect San Antonio to rank at the top, and this is what happened in a new study by real estate company Clever. Austin finished at No. 2 on the list and Dallas fell in at No. 12.

Out of the 50 cities examined in the study, San Antonio ranked highly in several other categories, such as the volume of barbecue restaurants in the city. The Alamo City boasts the fourth-most barbecue restaurants per capita with 4.2 for every 100,000 residents. San Antonio has a BBQ location every 4.6 miles, which was tops in the United States.

The aforementioned facts make it no surprise Clever ranked San Antonio No. 1 in Google searches for the word, ‘brisket.’

Other cities in the top 15 include Nashville, Las Vegas, Memphis and Kansas City.

Among the worst cities in the U.S. for BBQ are Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, Seattle and New York.
