San Antonio Police Chief McManus reimburses city for ballistics vest stolen from his vehicle

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Last week, someone broke into the department issued vehicle driven by San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

It happened at around 9 P.M. Thursday at the Chief’s home just North of Downtown.

The thief was spotted by someone who was driving by and ran off. But they got away with the Chief’s ballistics vest.

Now there is word that the Chief has written a check for the stolen vest.

Department policy states that any officer who loses badges, firearms or other city equipment through negligence or carelessness, has to pay to replace it.

Deputy City Manager Maria Villagomez says they received a check for $390 from the Chief to replace the stolen vest.

The thief who stole the vest hasn’t been found.
