San Antonio Police: Man arrested, charged with arson after reportedly setting several fires on the Northeast Side
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man believed responsible for a series of fires and a robbery has been arrested.
San Antonio police say the first fire was reported at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday from a home on Ira Lee Road on the the Northeast Side.
While crews were putting out that fire, they learned of another fire behind the home.
Then a passer-by alerted firefighters about a brush fire further down the road.
This was followed by yet another call for some cars on fire at repo yard also located on Ira Lee Road.
A few hours later, an officer spotted a man running behind some businesses on Austin Highway. They began pursuing the man who climbed up on the roof of one home and proceeded to jump from one roof to another as he attempted to get away from the officers.
He eventually climbed onto the roof of a post office on Austin Highway and stayed up there until police were able to detain him just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
He was taken to a hospital to be checked out because he had fallen several times while jumping from roof to roof.
The man’s name hasn’t been released but police say he’s being charged with arson.
KTSA News will update this developing story when more information is released.
