SAPD: Man shot after pointing gun at police officer on South Side

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man is in the hospital after reportedly pulling a gun on a San Antonio police officer.

SAPD Chief William McManus says it happened just after 12:15 a.m. Thursday on the South Side near Padre Drive and Napier Avenue.

McManus says the officer had been pursuing the driver for a while and when they finally pulled over, the officer approached the vehicle and noticed the driver was pointing a gun at him.

The officer managed to pull their weapon and fired at the man, hitting him in the shoulder.

The driver was brought to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

His name hasn’t been released but according to the chief, he is in his 40’s and is a documented gang member with a criminal history.

The officer, who has been with SAPD for about 4 years, was not hurt.
