SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man accused of shooting two dogs on San Antonio’s North Side is in the hospital after shooting himself.

Police Chief William McManus says it happened Wednesday afternoon as they were attempting to serve a search warrant to the man at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Wakefield.

McManus says as detectives knocked on the man’s door, they heard a gunshot.

The SWAT team was brought in and when they sent a drone into the apartment, they found the man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound.

The chief says they initially believed the 45-year-old man was dead, but he still had a pulse so he was rushed to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The man is believed to have shot two dogs over the weekend. The shootings were caught on surveillance video which detectives used to identify the man.

McManus says they have no idea why the man shot himself and the dogs. His name hasn’t been released.

KTSA News will update this developing story as more details are released.
