SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A San Antonio Police Officer is recovering after she was involved in a serious car wreck Monday morning.

It happened at around 3 A.M. on 1604 near Lockhill Selma.

SAPD received a call about an accident involving an officer. They tried to reach Officer Abigail Macias by radio but she didn’t respond.

When more officers arrived they found her badly damaged cruiser which had struck a utility pole. It was in the median and caught on fire with Macias still inside.

She was pulled from the cruiser by another officer and the fire was extinguished.

Officer Macias was transported to an area hospital with multiple injuries including broken bones in her left leg.

The cause of the crash is being investigated. Dash cam video will be used to determine how it happened.
