SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – A San Antonio police officer is on administrative leave after shooting a car burglary suspect outside a West Side hotel.

Officers got a call shortly after 8 this morning about a man burglarizing vehicles in the parking lot of the Oyo Hotel on Loop 410 near Marbach Road.

Chief William McManus says the officer and the suspect got into a scuffle. The officer used pepper spray, but it had no effect on the man. Both ended up on the ground and the chief says the officer believed he was “on the losing end” of the fight.

The officer shot the man in the back of the leg. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury.

McManus says the officer was shaken, but not injured. The 17-year veteran of SAPD is on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
