SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The name of a man who was shot after he pointed a gun at a San Antonio police officer has been released.

It happened November 7 at Padre Drive and Napier Avenue.

That’s where Officer Oscar Espino spotted a vehicle that had sped off during a traffic stop earlier in the evening.

The officer was conducting the second traffic stop when the driver lowered the window and pointed a gun.

Officer Espino pulled his duty weapon and fired several rounds at the driver.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Raul Ramirez, was hit in the shoulder and was brought to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Ramirez, who is reported to be a known gang member, has been charged with Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Officer Espino was not hurt.

Both the SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit will conduct separate, concurrent inquiries regarding the shooting. Their findings will be sent to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
