San Antonio residents could decide fate of horse-drawn carriages downtown
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The controversy over horse-drawn carriages in downtown San Antonio has been dragging for a couple of years, and maybe the debate is about to be settled.
City council is asking for your input in deciding on whether to keep the rides, or get rid of them.
Two council members submitted paperwork to halt the rides back in 2022, but since that time one of those representatives has changed course on the basis the companies running the horse-drawn carriages are minority owned.
In April, the Governance Committee voted to send a proposal to stop the rides to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for consideration. In August, the same committee voted to have city staff come up with a plan to phase out the carriages.
The city now has a survey posted on its website that is seeking input, and you can take that survey by clicking here.
The Alamo City has licensed horse-drawn carriages since 1865.
Five companies have permits to run horse-drawn carriages in San Antonio.
Input is being taken in the survey until next Tuesday.
