SAPD dedicates helicopter in honor of fallen officers
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) – The San Antonio Police Department has a new helicopter, an Airbus H125.
“This helicopter will serve as a multi-mission platform, serving the community on patrol, search and rescue, and special operations,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
SAPD pilot Sgt. Daniel Anders says it’s a state-of-the art helicopter with “the best navigation equipment you can get.” He says it also is equipped with a hoist, which can be used to rescue people from floodwaters.
“This helicopter can get right over them, drop that cable and pick people up safely,” said Anders.
The tail number on the aircraft is N1603M, which includes the badge number of Miguel Moreno, He was shot and killed in the line of duty June 30, 2017.

A decal on the chopper lists all of the SAPD officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Moreno’s family was presented a replica of the Airbus H125 and a framed picture of the newest SAPD helicopter.
