SAPD: Officers involved in fatal shooting, 3 on administrative duty

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is investigating after three of its officers were involved in a fatal shooting on Saturday.

Police say a 22-year-old suspect was being tracked in the 700 block of Broadway Street around 5:45 p.m. When officers engaged the suspect in a parking lot, they say he refused to get out of the car while threatening to kill the cops.

SAPD says three officers pulled their guns and fired, killing the suspect at the scene.

Another 22-year-old man was in the backseat of the car and was also hit. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and was not described as a suspect.

Investigators say the suspect had three felony warrants. These were issued for possession of a firearm, continuous violence against the family, and aggravated promotion of prostitution.

Police Chief William McManus says the suspect had been tracked since Friday by SAPD’s ROPE Unit and Crisis Response Team.

One of the officers involved in the shooting has 15 years with the force, and the other two have seven years each.

Multiple investigations are underway and the results will be turned in to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
