SAPD releases body cam footage of officer-involved-shooting

Caution: Video footage may be disturbing for some viewers

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is releasing body camera footage of an officer-involved-shooting on the South Side.

KTSA News reported the shooting of Raul Ramirez November 7, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate.

The footage shows Officer Oscar Espino trying to initiate a traffic stop after he saw Ramirez commit a traffic violation at S. Presa and S.E. Military. SAPD says Espino recognized the suspect vehicle as one that ran away from police earlier the same day.

As opposed to pulling over, Ramirez appears to accelerate. After a brief chase, he stopped at the intersection of nearby Padre Drive and Napier Avenue. As Espino got out of his patrol car, the footage shows Ramirez appearing to point a gun in the officers direction.

The 2-year-veteran of the force fired his weapon, hitting the suspect in the arm.

Ramirez was rushed to the hospital with what was considered a non-life-threatening injury. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault – peace officer and felon in possession of a firearm.
