SAPD: Robbery suspect shot, killed after pointing gun at officers

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man accused of robbing a South Side store and then pointing a gun at officers is dead.

The San Antonio Police Department says an officer-involved-shooting happened Thursday night in the 1400 block of Cantrell Drive. Investigators say police had been tracking the suspect after several robberies had taken place in recent days.

Acting on unspecified information, police learned the suspect might be targeting another store and officers went to that location.

Police Chief William McManus says the man showed up, committed a robbery and then drove off.

Officers began pursuit and the suspect jumped out of his car and started running. Shortly after, investigators say the suspect ran into a fence, and then turned around and pointed a gun at the officers. An unknown number of officers then opened fire on the suspect, who died at the scene.

SAPD says the suspect was wanted for at least four recent robberies.

KTSA News will update this developing story when more details are released.
