SAPD searching for leads in carjacking turned murder

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio police released new surveillance video and are offering rewards for leads on the identity of person who is suspected of shooting and killing a man last week during an attempted carjacking.

According to police, Javier Francisco Nava Mendoza was flagged down around 7 a.m. last Monday while on his way to work on Hermine Boulevard by two people who attempted to take his vehicle. One of the suspects reportedly shot him and then Mendoza crashed his vehicle into a nearby fence.

Crime Stoppers said the two people may be familiar with and frequent the area of the crash and noted that one of the suspects may not have known their accomplice was going to to shoot into the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to submit a tip online or call 210-207-7579. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrests of one or both individuals.
