SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Six children are in the hospital after they were thrown from an SUV during a crash on I-35 Sunday evening.

The San Antonio Police Department says the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near Frost Bank Center Drive. There were nine people in the SUV, two adults and seven children, only one of which was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the vehicle now faces child endangerment charges.

KSAT 12  reports the SUV was heading north on I-35 when the vehicle blew a tire. This caused the driver to lose control, and the six children were ejected when the vehicle hit a tree. Some of those children have life-threatening injuries and their current status is unknown.

The youngest child in the SUV was two years old, the oldest 11.

This is a developing story and KTSA News will give more details when possible.
