SAPD: Suspect arrested, charged in connection to shooting death of 14-year-old boy
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The San Antonio Police Department is making an arrest in connection to the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy on the Southeast Side.
Gideon Segundo, 17, was arrested Monday, and investigators say he shot and killed Timothy Chavez on the evening of July 15.
Police were called to the scene in the 3800 block of South Mittman Street not long before midnight. After shots were fired, investigators say family members rushed outside to find Chavez with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
KSAT-12 reports Segundo had driven up to Chavez’ home in a maroon sedan. Surveillance video shows that sedan speeding away after gunshots were heard.
Police say 21 shell casings were found at the scene, and investigators believe Segundo might have been trying to sell a gun. Police also say the victim frequently sold marijuana to the suspect.
SAPD also found that Segundo had a maroon car, identified as a Mitsubishi Galant, that was seen just a block away from the scene of the shooting. Detectives later processed the Galant for evidence, and they say blood was found in the car.
Police say Segundo tried to tell detectives he had been forced to let someone else borrow his phone and car before the fatal shots were fired, but the suspect stopped cooperating with the investigation when his story was questioned.
Segundo has been charged with capital murder of a person older than 10 years of age but younger than 15.
